Core Components

GWAC Northstar consists of four key user interface components, all representing a different type of user account with varying uses and accessibility.

Task Order Portal

The task order portal is a web app where clients view upcoming GWAC task orders and evaluations of their fit with their interests.

Matrix Manager

The matrix manager web app helps client sales executives prioritize relevant GWAC task orders among the multitude issued under a specific GWAC.

Task Order Annotator

The task order annotator is a web app for Deep Water Point analysts to record and evaluate procurement details from GWACs for DWP clients.

Admin Manager

DWP admins use the admin manager app to oversee client accounts and users, often playing multiple roles in task order evaluation.

The biggest challenge was adapting to an unfamiliar business context and conversing with a range of different stakeholders. I learned the industry lingo and collaborated effectively with non-designers, marking my first experience in such an agile environment.

WCAG Tested & Approved

Through low-fidelity designing, WCAG approval became required to make it more accessible for anyone. Following the WCAG protocol enabled the design to be accessible to the colour blind, and also those using a screen reader.

David M. Bridgeland

The quality of Liam's work was uniformly superb. Every user interface design he created was thoughtful and polished.
Liam is a pleasure to work with: easy-going, flexible, and professional. His professionalism was tested toward the end of this project when some issues with the work of a colleague emerged. Liam performed admirably, like someone with 15 years of work experience.
Liam's time management is also exemplary. When he worked for Hanging Steel Productions, Liam was a full-time student, a student-athlete at SCAD, and no doubt had a social life as well. Yet none of those demands on his time seemed to interfere with his work for Hanging Steel Productions. Everything was done on time.

The most surprising aspect of Liam's work was the degree to which he learned the business context of the application we created together. He was interested in that business context, learned it, and made good UI/UX decisions reflecting his learning.

Key Learnings

Design In A Corporate World

As a corporate designer, I discovered the critical role of design in business success, witnessing how it enhances brands, user experiences, and profitability. This journey honed my skills and deepened my understanding of the symbiotic relationship between design and business, making me a more versatile professional.

1

Agile Design Sprints

In my initial encounter with agile design sprints, meeting tight deadlines was essential. This new environment prioritized speed and collaboration, requiring rapid brainstorming, experimentation, and iteration to achieve our goals. Despite its challenges, the experience underscored the significance of teamwork and adaptability in efficiently delivering results.

3

Importance of Documentation

Documentation is key, especially when working with non-designers. It helps everyone understand design decisions and project progress. Clear documentation streamlines communication, reduces errors, and ensures everyone is aligned towards common goals.

2

Developer Collaboration

Navigating between offshore development teams amid performance issues highlighted the complexities of collaboration. Scheduling meetings across time zones, with early morning standups at 6 am, posed challenges. Yet, maintaining clear communication and adapting to diverse team dynamics proved essential, reinforcing the value of flexibility and resilience in cross-team collaborations.
